strategies for gencon

gencon vs. money

so...

bought my ticket for four days.

i will be there august 15-18th no doubt...

well ok. i won't be there on sunday i don't think...

but everything is coming along swimmingly

pretty soon i will be working on sleeping arrangements at hotels or motels or bus-stations.

looked at several possibilities on what to do while i am there.

they have a variety of things that i could do with my game. exhibit it, sell it, merchandise it, shop it...

here is an idea of their price bracket.

so, i could show it off for $31.50 an hour in the place where i would be gaming it for eight hours...

that sounds like the most fun...

but the $250 chunk is a bit steep in my (poor) opinion.

"Frowny Face!"

but wait! here's an idea!

i could go out and just set up a table with a bunch of cool posters and flyers and free cards and sit around and tell people about it while i sip on a tasty cool beverage and surf the web or design cards in front of people!

wait...

again the money has me at an advantage.

US$1,600 just to taunt you with the games awesomeness is probably something that i won't be doing any time soon...

just to let you know:

if i had money, i would probably just pay someone to help me make more cards...

this game is awesome enough the way it is progressing that i don't think i need to invest THAT MUCH just yet...

so. here you get to see pauly play a strategy card in real life.

here is my plan:

go to gencon.

CHECK.

be armed with a free "gamer" card that will only be released at gencon.

CHECK.

hand out this card to people wandering around the first day while wearing an empires and generals t-shirt.

CHECK!

hopefully they ignore me due to this:

=================================

Convention Center Policies

Solicitation

Distributing or posting any promotional materials is also prohibited. Violation of this policy may result in immediate removal from the convention without refund.

and this

Advertising
There is no flyering, postering or showbilling of any kind in or around any of the convention grounds, including the hotels. If caught, you may be asked to leave the convention and have your badge revoked, without refund.

=================================

don't get kicked out!

CHECK!
so then i watch people start playing on their own.

CHECK.

no showbilling shenanigans.

so i will be blogging and filming some there, i will put it up as soon as wi-fi becomes handy...

hope to see you there, and we can find a place to play!

notes on the metaphysical and religion

so...

fixing the ethereal "special edition" cards...

i think here is what's going to happen...

first i will move all of the non religious special edition cards out of special edition and reprint them as normal expanded or unaffiliated or preview cards...

then i will only have iconic religiously affiliated cards in the special edition.

yeah, throughout history many religious scholars have claimed "this" or "that" is real or not real, and i am going to go on the most scientific evidence possible and place it in the regular decks...

the stuff that is more... metaphysical... i will just keep in the special edition.

but i have to draw the line somewhere, you know -

so it will be in the physical manifestation of these perceived dimensions.

and that means that...

if christians and jews and muslims want to give me crap for doing this or not doing that, i can just say: "hey! it's in the game!"

but there won't be angels or demons or cherubs showing up as soldiers in the game with 1000 strength and 1000 life. that would suck for any human army.

but i might have: "dreams of angels" or something pretty benign in there as a kingdom card. heck, if you lived back in the day and dreamed of an angel, it would be a pretty big deal whether it was peyote or the real thing... it would defiantly affect the way you ruled your people.

so... that's going to happen pretty soon.

=================

in other news,

we have a couple of new artists coming on board so i will be using a couple of their cards pretty soon... look for that.

=================

oh and we are going to be at http://www.gencon.com/ this august. hope to see you there.

website move

with the growth of the game, we have decided to consolidate as much as we can and just have the game main site here on the blog...

so now empiresandgenerals.com and empiresandgenerals.tk point to empiresandgenerals.blogspot.com...

it seemed silly to bounce around with all of the other sites we have to host cards.

it may not be as flashy but the budget is better. thank you google.

i would like to also thank my good friend david pesta for helping the website continue on in its wonderfulness.

i would also like to thank j.b. farrell for his donation of new software to the game.

but most importantly, thank you, players for continuing to help us grow.

hide yo wife and hide yo kids and break out empires and generals!

GAME ON!
